Baritone James Young began his classical vocal training eight years ago and has worked with many esteemed teachers and coaches. James was the 2017 recipient of the West Gippsland Eisteddfod's Tim Pretty Classical Vocal Scholarship and the Classical Vocal Perpetual Most Promising (Open). He also placed second in the prestigious Wollongong Eisteddfod Operatic Aria Championship in 2017. James has found success in a number of other eisteddfods and competitions, reaching the semi-finals of the 2016 Herald Sun Aria Competition.
James made his operatic debut as 'Masetto' in Mozart's Don Giovanni and will perform a lead role in Victorian Opera's youth production of Copland's The Second Hurricane in October 2017. He has performed in Melbourne productions of The Pirates of Penzance as the 'Pirate King' and as 'Passarino' in The Phantom of the Opera.
James joined Opera Scholars Australia in 2017 and has treasured the opportunity to work with some of the world's leading conductors, singers and vocal coaches. James would like to particularly thank Graeme and Margot Wall for the opportunity to participate in the program and for their invaluable advice regarding all aspects of operatic performance.
