RECIPIENT OF THE GARRY CANNING SCHOLARSHIP
Under the tutelage of Roger Howell, Michael recently graduated from the Melbourne Conservatorium with a Bachelor of Music in Performance, during which, Michael was also under the tutelage of Suzanne Johnston.
Michael’s background in music begun with piano at an early age, and then pursuing exams on the instrument. Later on, during his time in high school, Michael was introduced to musical theatre which lead to him developing a keen interest in Performance. Michael’s introduction and transition into classical voice begun when he first met Roger Howell in his final years of High School, leading him to further study at the Melbourne Conservatorium and now pursuing Opera as a Career.
Michael’s Most recent performances include; Marco in Savoy Opera Company’s The Gondoliers, Ferrando in Lyric Opera’s Cosi Fan Tutte Workshops, Tenor Soloist in Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Tenor soloist in Melbourne Opera’s Mozart by Moonlight Concert, The Shepherd and the Young sailor (February 2nd) and covering the role for the remainder of the season in Melbourne Opera’s Tristan and Isolde.
Alongside Opera Scholars, Michael was recently selected to be a part of the Richard Divall Emerging Artist’s Program for 2018. Michael is also looking forward to a very busy year ahead, with his upcoming engagements including being involved with the Chorus for Victorian Opera’s William Tell, as well as playing the role of The Innkeeper in Melbourne Opera’s production of Der Rosenkavalier.
