Thomas Harvey

TENOR
RECIPIENT OF THE HARDY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Thomas Harvey is a third-year scholar with Opera Scholars Australia, and was a finalist in the 2019 Scholar of the Year Competition. He graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in 2017, studying voice with Carrie Barr.

During his studies, he appeared in various university productions, most notably being the 2017 performance of Monteverdi’s ‘L’Orfeo.’ He was praised for his ‘stand-out voice… whose charming legato tenor sound, and expressive face and action made his role memorable.’ (Janette Wells, Classic Melbourne, 17 September 2017). 2018 saw him appear as Le Chevalier in the University of Melbourne’s production of Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmèlites.

In addition to operatic appearances, Thomas was a part of the Young Songmakers Development Program with Songmakers Australia in 2018, under the musical direction of Andrea Katz, and was a Henkell Scholar with the Melbourne Bach Choir, conducted by Rick Prakhoff. Thomas has a particular interest in the Japanese art song repertoire.
