MEZZO-SOPRANO

Chloe James (she/her) is a classically trained mezzo soprano. She is currently in her final year of her Masters in Music (Opera Performance) at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, after having also completed her Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice) in 2022. With over ten years of dancing and choral experience, she is a versatile and charismatic performer.

Chloe has been involved in several productions with Victorian Opera, featuring as Laura in Die Freunde von Salamanka (Schubert), Scientist #1 in The Grumpiest Boy in the World (Twist), Masha in Melbourne, Cheremushki (Shostakovich, cover), Chloe in Opera Bytes (Grant) and in the chorus of Il Mago Di Oz (Valtinoni). During her time at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (The University of Melbourne), Chloe performed as Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Miss Todd in The Old Maid and the Thief (Menotti) and Cobweb in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Britten).

Her love of music spans various genres as she has a passion for songwriting, new music and contemporary works. Chloe has been generously supported by several prizes and scholarships, including the Mona McCaughey and Muriel Cheek scholarships and the Grace Durling Encouragement Award.
