MEZZO-SOPRANO

Western Australian born Mezzo-Soprano Genevieve Droppert holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in Performance from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM), University of Melbourne. 

In 2020, Genevieve completed an exchange programme at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, where she studied with Professor Lynne Dawson. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2021 with First-Class Honours and was the recipient of the CM Middleton Scholarship. 

Genevieve’s passion for challenging traditional representations of women in opera is evident in her Honours thesis titled: “Patriarchal Narratives in Nico Muhly’s Marnie (2017): Examining Power Dynamics and Sexual Violence”. She was a Gertrude Johnson Young Artist with the Australian Contemporary Opera Company (ACOCo) in 2022. Her credits include Dialogues des Carmélites, Die Zauberflöte (MCM); Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Book of Longing (ACOCo); and The Grumpiest Boy in The World (Victorian Opera). Genevieve has been with Opera Scholars since 2021 and was a semi-finalist in the 2023 Aria Competition.
