BASS-BARITONE

Noah Straughan is a young baritone based in Melbourne. This year he will be completing his Master of Music (Opera Performance), at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where he is taught by Roxane Hislop.

Recently, Noah has performed in Menotti’s The Medium (MCM) as Toby and Mr Gobineau, and in The Magic Flute (MCM) as The Speaker and Papageno (u/s). Other recent engagements include Dad and Giant (u/s) in The Grumpiest Boy in the World (Victorian Opera), Peter Quince in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (MCM), and ensemble performances in Melbourne, Cheremushki (Victorian Opera) and (Lyster Opera).

Noah was a performer in ‘Schubert’s 1823 Project: Die schöne Müllerin’, a lecture-recital performance featuring Dr Graham Johnson, as part of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music’s Art Song Festival 2023. He has also performed with Opera in the Country, and participated in a performance of the Act 4 Finale of Le Nozze di Figaro (Figaro/Antonio) under the direction of Stuart Maunder AM.

He is the humble recipient of the Walter Kirby Singing, Catherine Grace McWilliam Prize, Truby Williams Conservatorium Endowment, and Murray Ormond Vagg Scholarships.

Noah is excited to be a member of Opera Scholars Australia in 2024.
